Here’s a little profile I did recently for The Clothing Exchange’s monthly Featured Friend section. The subject is one Miss Leeyong Soo, fashion writer and design extroadonaire.
Leeyong Soo is a writer, designer and also someone I plan on trolling through the bargain bins of an op shop with very soon.
Although never formally studying Fashion, Soo grew up with a love for all things sartorial; creating outfits for her toys out of fabric scraps and ribbons soon lead to revamping recycled materials for her own ever-growing wardrobe.
As the years passed her “love of thriftiness and making things out of stuff that other people would throw out” only grew, even landing a job across the pond at Japanese Vogue couldn’t stop her creative nature. Scouring the local flea markets and op shops for secondhand kimono and obi Soo began her very own label Fourth Daughter.
Each piece is superbly handcrafted, made from recycled materials and totally unique.
In fact, The Clothing Exchange was so impressed with her goodies that they asked her to host an accessories workshop along side their recent September Swap.
Be sure to check out her blog http://stylewilderness.blogspot.com/ or pick up an issue of Peppermint magazine for more from this clever lady.
Soo will also be running a Fashion Show as part of the Fair@Square Festival this December.
