scream 4.

Seeing it tonight with my lovers. Because nothing screams (pun intended) girls night like a teen slasher and popcorn. It’s been ten years. Could I be more excited? Frig no.

Side note: my money is on Sidney’s whorey mum making a comeback as the killer, eh ehhh?

american grafitti.

Great news petals! They are playing the 1973 classic American Graffiti this Sunday at the Astor Theatre and you can count on me to be sitting front & centre for it.

Directed by dreamweaver George Lucas (I think we all know how I feel about him and if you don’t I gots two words for ya, star wars) and starring Richard Dreyfuss and Ron Howard, this was the original coming of age indie film that paved the way for just about every damn fine movie that has been produced since.

three men & a ghost.

Yet another reason to love Vaughan Dead (like I need it). He has just posted this infamous video from the 1980′s classic Three Men & a Baby. You know, with the GHOST child watching you from behind a curtain? Don’t believe me? Watch it closely around the 0.35 second mark. Creeeeeeeepy.

Ps Tom Sellick aka The Moustache aka Magnum P.I. was such a honey right?

people more interesting than me: joaquin phoenix

Have you seen I’m Still Here yet? You know, that movie directed by Casey Affleck that documents a batshit insane Joaquin Phoenix as he attempts to transition from A-list actor to rap superstar. If you haven’t, you must. It’s so weird slash hilarious slash depressing slash confronting slash genius.

I watched it over the weekend and kind of wish I didn’t know it was a sham…. Yes, as admitted by Affleck in September of last year, the whole documentery is a fake. Bored with the straighty 180′s of Hollywood, Phoenix & Affleck decided it would be a bit of fun to ruffle some feathers with the unravelling of an Oscar nominated actor in his prime.

After watching it I’m convinced of two things; 1. Joaquin Phoenix is the greatest actor of all time. 2. Joaquin Phoenix is actually nuts.

Even if the whole doco and concept was made up, you have to be totally coco bananas to sacrifice your entire career and act insane for TWO WHOLE YEARS. But man does it make for some good viewing.

Take this clip for example, Phoenix in character as crazy ‘JP’ on Letterman. Needless to say, Dave is less than impressed….

suburbs trailer.

I mentioned a while back that dream weaver Spike Jonze was in kahoots with Arcade Fire to make a short film inspired by their masterpiece of an album The Suburbs. Well they have finally released the trailer, below, and I gotta say I’m flippin’ excited.

The film is set for release in May/ June of this year and will be roughly 30 minutes of extreme enjoyment (I’m assuming).

Here is The Suburbs video, watch it, seriously.

crazy pants.

So apparently nothing brings a community together like an A-List star going ‘whoa nelly’ crazy? Yep you guess it, old mate Chaz Sheen. Pretty funny feature on LifeLounge here.

ck one.

There’s not a single love child from the 90′s that wont remember the impact this Calvin Klein ad had on not only fashion but an entire generation of wannabe gangsters and heroin addicts. Marky Mark was the king of cool and Kate Moss was a new breed of beauty, sparking an entire waif-like generation of models.

Denim worldwide was becoming increasingly oversized while the equally important underwear was doing the opposite, coming in and moving up. Just like my man Wahlberg said, no one let anything come between them and their Calvin’s.

Years on and the ck one lifestyle brand is looking as smoking hot as ever with an entirely new but equally provoking campaign. Mr. Klein enlisted the talents of photography god Steven Meisel to film models and new wave brat packers such as Lara Stone, Alice Dellal, Pixie Geldof as well as home-grown talent Abbey Lee Kershaw and Bambi.

The group comprises of long limbs and high cheek bones and are instructed to do whatever they want within the ‘ck room’ whilst being filmed. Trying on clothes, laughing, talking and inevitably awkward dancing is all caught on camera for our viewing pleasure.

Here are some preview shots but the entire film will be launched March 1st so keep you eyes open and tissues close.

el guincho – bombay.

Have you seen this video? It’s insane! Part acid trip, part softcore porn & part geek wonderland, it is definitely one of the best music videos I’ve seen in a long time. Kudos to my darling friend Flic for finding this bad boy and passing it on.

boardwalk empire.

Yeah yeah I’m a little slow off the mark, dedicated HBO viewers worldwide are already all over Boardwalk Empire and it’s plethora of goodness but I do not have pay TV or fast working internet at home so give me a god damn break.

Set in Atlantic City, Joisey (that’s Jersey Shore for New Jersey) during the prohibition this series could well be the greatest show since the Soprano’s. Bold statement I know. Equally bold is how mother flippin’ good looking Michael Pitt is, pictured below for your enjoyment.

Side note: I used the word plethora as a joke.

on the road.

I mentioned a while ago that I was re-reading Jack Kerouac’s classic On The Road in anticipation of the movie adaption that is due to hit our screens this year. So can I be honest? Is this a safe place? It’s not the easiest read and I don’t even know if I love the book that much. But I can recognise On The Road’s significance as it was the first novel of its kind, told like a stream of consciousness from the central characters mind and paving the way for authors like my one and only Bret Easton Ellis.

The pictures below give us a sneak peek into what the movie is going to look like and if I was to once again be brutally honest, I’d have to admit that I’m pretty dirty about the fact that they cast boring-face-angst-ridden Kristen Stewart as Mary Lou. Seriously, has anyone else noticed that she plays the same character in every movie? Points are redeemed however with the casting of Garrett Hedlund (honey) as Dean Moriarty and Viggo Mortensen as Old Bull Lee. Good work fellas.
