top five.

1. The return of Glee. I have been debating admitting that I love Glee for some time now… Cabana boy insists you guys will understand but a large part of me believes I just lost a punt load of street cred. True? Either way my friends, I am a red-hot Gleek . Monday nights at our place go OFF with show tunes and over rehearsed dance routines.

2. My new Neil Diamond – Greatest Hits vinyl. Darling Ballerina totally hooked a sister up with a gift from Camberwell Markets this morning. Gotta love any new addition to my fast-growing record collection. FYI Bushy eyebrows have never looked so good.

3. Water. Yes you heard me, water. After sticking it out in the sweltering 40 degree heat yesterday at Big Day Out I am rehydrating, and then hydrating again. God dammit it was hot, but LCD Soundsystem single-handedly made the sweat bath worth it. They were in-sane.

4. Yellowbird in Windsor. Nothing new, have been going there for years but lately they have been better than ever. Why? Can’t really tell you. But they have been playing a lot of Beck and Pixie’s lately so that can’t hurt.

5. My darling heart best friend love of my life is returning home from a nine month trek around the world (selfish). Can’t wait. Seriously, hurry up Saturday.

ash’s top five.

See! I ain’t no liar. And I ain’t no big wig either, but let’s assume for a second that in some circles my opinion actually does count (it doesn’t) and with that in mind, he are my Top Five Blogs of 2010. FYI I thought listing ten was asking way too much from you as readers.

1. Wooooo Magazine’s news blog. Online ramblings and ‘fillers’ by my obsession favourite writer Jason Crombie. There is no reason or rhyming to any of the blog’s content, but that’s what is so effing great about it.

2. Purple DIARY. The official blog of Purple Magazine featuring photography shot by the magazine’s editor and man-about-town Oliver Zahm. If you want to feel depressed about how lame and uninspired your life is then this is the blog for you!

3. Monster Children. The blog portion of this cult-worshiped magazine’s website (too many descriptive words) entails videos, witty remarks and cultural updates that keep me occupado between issues. It’s pretty ‘boysie’ but I am totally into it. Then again, I am also totally into Star Wars and cricket so girls, maybe this one is not for you?

4. Jak & Jil. Or as I like to call it the Cadillac of fashion blogs, this bad boy is photographic genius mixed with people hotter, richer and far more important than you. Shot by fashion royalty Mr. Tommy Ton, this blog is street style on crack. And by crack I mean a lot of money & pricey fabrications.

5. Thought Catalogue. An online magazine containing the ‘thoughts’ of media’s elite with a sharp-tongued little angle to it. This is the blog I visit when I have a few minutes and want to read something actually decent. It’s funny as shit and a force to be reckoned with.

top five.

Yes kiddly winks it’s that time again. Here are the top five things juicing my engine this week….

1. Penguin Classics. What’s not to love? They’re cheap, good lookin’ and a bento box full of some of the best literature ever to foxtrot across our retinas. In anticipation of two upcoming movie remakes I am simultaneously reading Jack Kerouac’s On the Road and F. Scott Fitzgerald’s masterpiece The Great Gatsby.

In fact, my new aim in life is to BUY THEM ALL and dedicate an entire bookshelf to those orange little fuckers. Don’t copy! What? Everyone’s doing it already? Damn.

 2. The Leopard Coat (otherwise known as my new reason for living) that I found at the Op Shop last week. Yep, after years of trawling through Melbourne’s thrifty goodness I have landed the vintage find of a lifetime. Think Isabel Marant slash Alexa Chung slash Bianca Jagger slash Topshop rip off slash enivitable Sportsgirl rip off. You get the drift….

3. Russh Magazine’s Astro Guide 2011. It’s our time Aries, represent! By far the best horoscope I have ever read, looking forward to the months to come. (That bitch better be right).

 4. My morning coffee. Yes podre’s, after a long six month hiatus from old mate ‘skinny late with one’ I am back and more addicted than ever.

 5. And finally, this scene from my all time favourite movie Lords of Dogtown (well equal first with Point Break, hey Utah!) . Emile Hirsch playing Jay Adams with Neil Young, get me a happy tissue already.

top five.

Show me a single, white, mid-to-late thirties, western female (with a cat) and I’ll show you someone who loves Oprah’s Favourite Things. I mean, who doesn’t? That shit is FREE! Well for audience members only, but still….. FREE!

So even though I don’t have a disposable income in the millions (who am I kidding, I just scrounged through the bottom of three bags to find enough coin to buy this mornings coffee) and a worldwide platform in which to share my thoughts and generosity, I have still decided to tell you my favourite things, right here right now, as and ode to my girl O.

1. Wooooo Magazine. My obsession is becoming unnatural and borderline just plain weird. But I wont go all rain man on you, just scroll down a few posts & read about it there.

2. Cherry coke. I literally lost. my. shit. last Saturday when I realised that my local supermarket stock 2L bottles of the stuff, as well as cans and other diet varieties, like it aint no thang. Needless to say I’ve been guzzling from the bottle in front of my roommates constantly since so no one steals any. FYI, they also stock Milk Duds and Peanut Butter Cups at this place too. Jackpot.

3. Coconut incense. I work with hippies and Hindu’s so incence has become a monster of a habit. Found this flavour (?)  in St. Kilda a few weeks ago and seriously, it is like acid for your nostrils. I have been lighting those mothers up every time I walk in the door lately because they are that good.

4. Skins season 3 and 4. Freddy. Enough said.

5. The Middle East – Pig Food. Ugly name, beautiful song. As with all of their music, it is eery and wonderful and I love it.
